Yom Kippur
We have investigated the possibilities for Jewish delegates to attend the Yom Kippur celebration in synagogues in Amsterdam. There is a considerable amount of synagogues in the city. Participants are welcome to join the services. The main synagogues are the following:
A. Conservatives (liberal in Dutch):
Liberaal Joodse Gemeente: Jacob Soetendorpstraat 8 (opposite the RAI).
Tickets (with a guarantee to have a seat) have to be ordered at least one month
prior to the event. People are welcome to attend the service without a ticket,
but there is a chance that they will have to stand or that the doors will be
closed because of fire regulations. This will probably only be the case on
Friday evening, not during the day on Saturday.
B. Nederlands Israelitische Hoofdsynagoge (Joodse Gemeente Amsterdam):
Approximately 6 - 8 Ashkenazic synagogues belong to this community. No special arrangements have to be made to attend the Yom Kippur services.
C. Portugese Synagogue (Sephardic):
Jonas Daniel Meijerplein.
Also for this world famous synagogue (built between 1671 and 1675) no special
reservations have to be made.
