Welcome
Dear Colleagues,It is a great pleasure for the board and myself to announce the 10th anniversary of the European Haemovigilance Seminar (EHS) by the European Haemovigilance Network (EHN), taking place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany from February 28th to March 1st, 2008.
The EU directives for blood and tissues have induced major changes with regard to the safety of blood and tissues across Europe. Haemovigilance and adequate use of blood, including donor vigilance, stem cell, tissue and material vigilance, can contribute significantly to the improvement of evidence-based transfusion medicine.
The seminar will deal with all of these important aspects. Because alternatives to blood transfusion play an important role in the treatment of patients, we will discuss the risks and benefits of haematopoietic growth factors such as erythropoetin (EPO), Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (G-CSF) and antifibrinolytics compared to the substitution of blood components.
As in the past, we will have plenary meetings, seminar groups and poster discussions to meet the challenge of an international exchange of knowledge and data. We invite all colleagues from Germany, Europe and all the countries of the world to come to Frankfurt and join the seminar. Frankfurt is a lively and modern city located centrally in Germany and Europe, easily reached by car, train or airplane.
Frankfurt combines the intellectually stimulating atmosphere of a university city with the business attitude of a banking metropolis. We will certainly try to do our best to make your stay a friendly and positively memorable one and to help to make the 10th EHS a successful meeting.
Welcome to Frankfurt am Main in Germany!
Professor Dr. E. Seifried
