Welcome
Dear Colleagues,We are greatly pleased to announce the 11th European Haemovigilance Seminar (EHS), which will be held in Rome, Italy, from 25th to 27th February, 2009.
The Seminar will aim at updating the state of the art of the application of the EU blood directives in different European countries with regard to the evolution and perspectives of haemovigilance systems, as well as the state of the art of haemovigilance systems in developing countries. The international exchange of knowledge and data will also focus on donor, tissue and material vigilance, haemovigilance in specific clinical settings and non classical/ long term adverse reaction to blood transfusion.
The seminar will also provide an update on recent studies reporting harmful effects of blood transfusion in relation to storage lesions, also dealing with the role of emerging research tools and techniques such as proteome analysis and its challenging potential in the investigation of molecular alterations and improvement of blood component storage conditions and media. Plenary meetings, parallel sessions and abstract discussion will hopefully provide an important contribution to improve evidence-based transfusion medicine and the quality and safety of the blood transfusion chain from donor to patient.
We look forward to meeting all professionals sharing the interest in haemovigilance and related issues, including executives and colleagues involved in institutional and regulatory affairs. With its gorgeous historical patrimony and fascinating environment Rome needs no presentation and within a continuous urban and cultural evolution it still reserves small hidden treasures to passionate visitors. We will do our best to let you appreciate the warm atmosphere and hospitality of this magic historical metropolis and the friendly welcome of Italian people, which we hope will help to make the 11th EHS an unforgettable event.
We look forward to welcoming you in Rome!
